Why Don’t People Notice My Weight Loss?

by admin - March 1st, 2010. Filed under: Natural Weight Loss.

It sounds incredibly vain, but I’ve worked hard for six months to lose weight. I am 5′2 and went from 169lbs to 122lbs
But I recently went to a holiday party where I ran into old co-workers who haven’t seen me in months. No one actually said “have you lost weight?” There were plenty who said “you look good!” I was a little peeved when one girl said “you look good, what have you been doing?” and I said, “well, I lost some weight” and she said “really?” as if she didn’t believe me.
Just wondering, what is the ettiquette is on this. Do you actually say somehting about weight loss or worry it will be offensive? Do you say something like “you look good” instead? I am thinking that is what they mean, but I can’t help feel a little frustrated that I dropped a good amount of weight and no one has said anything.
I do feel good and know that I look better, but its natural that I would want others to notice all the hard work.

I think it’s a matter of being polite, dear. Flat out stating that someone has lost weight in a conversation leaves people vulnerable to interpretation. While you personally may take it as a compliment, other people may be insulted, which could stem from insecurity about not losing that self image of oneself before the weight loss. You have a reason to celebrate. If you feel as good about yourself as you say you do, and everyone is telling you that you look great, you have no reason to worry.
    Congrats.
