Starvation/liquid Diet And Permanent Weight Loss?

by admin - January 31st, 2010. Filed under: Natural Weight Loss.

I am considering going on a diet consisting of coffee and water for a few days or weeks to see if I can knock off a few pounds.
I have been on Atkins for about 6 months and have managed to come within 10 lbs. of my desired weight but now I have stopped losing. I don’t care if my body thinks I am at my “natural weight” I want to be my optimal weight.
So my question is if I go on a liquid diet a.) Will I lose the weight? b.) well I be able to keep the weight off?
I do not eat any sugar or refined carbs.
Any information and/or opinions would be helpful.

    In general…NO!
Liquid diets are very short term. I’ve tried them and always gain abck the weight. As soon as you go back to regular food the weight piles bakc on because your body went into starvation mode.
After a while you lose weight and your body gets “used” to routine. Change up your diet. but do not go into these starvation diets they result will leave much to be desired.
Cutting down and sugar and carbs as you had is good. (EVen though there is health in carbs just you know cut down as you have) Try a new diet. Switching things up will help.
coffee and water will do one things for you…Screw your body up. You’ve been doing a really great job on Atkins, don’t mess that up.
EXERCISE. What have you been doing so far? Seriously exercising getting some cardio will help bump some weight off. Investing in a dumbbell maybe 10 or 20 pounds will work wonders. It wont bulk you up like many women believe it will help you shed fat. and you don’t need to lift like crazy. Just 2 reps of 15 or 20 is enough to get you going.
You can even just dance for a half hour or more and it’ll help. Get your body moving doing whatever you like. In a sense you can eat whatever you want as long as you burn more calories than you take in. Eat clean foods which means no processed food. Eve stick to Atkins and up your exercise. I hope this helps.
Just please don’t give up and forget the starvation/liquid junk. but if you really must go the detox route do it the right way. You can drink fruit juices (organic) for a day and it helps your body shed. Trying a cleanse may also help. Never exceed more than a day or two on these diets. Cleaning your colon helps a ton and gets rid of junk. That may be all you need.
You could also go vegan for a while. There’s a 21 day diet I believe that has worked for a friend of mine.

You probably would, before you wound up in the hospital, but at least half of the weight you lost would be lean body mass, which you need to keep weight off. Lean mass requires 1 calorie per pound per day to maintain, while fat, once accumulated, requires almost none. Keep sugar and refined carbs off your menu, and start up some strength training exercises. your weight will go up at first, but you’ll be adding muscle, which will in turn help you burn fat, thereby loosing weight. Really, though, you should forget how much you “should” weigh, and go by how you look and feel, which is probably not good right now since Atkins is known to be unhealthy

Question (b) is the right question to be asking. Starvation diets don’t work long-term, for two reasons. First, your body goes into “starvation mode” and starts doing everything it can to conserve energy. Second, your body starts breaking down muscle in order to get energy. Both of these changes have the effect of lowering your metabolism, so it will be harder to keep off the weight you’ve lost once you return to a normal diet.

  4. Why Do They Always Underrate Us?

The smaller you are…the harder it will be to lose the weight. The bigger you get…the harder to keep it off it’l be. My opinion is this is the worst thing…besides starvation you could do. Depriving the body of natural things it needs is horrible. Starvation is worse. The less you eat, the more your body will retain when you actually do eat. My doctor told me that it is bad to only eat one meal a day because it slows your matabolism down and the more calories it will take in because of the other skipped meals.

you said weeks up there. A couple days is ok, mabye 3. But any more than that can do serious damage to your body and metabolism. It can slow your metabolism down, causing you to burn less calories, making it harder to lose weight. I was too thinking about a liquid diet, but please do no go on it for more than a couple of days. What you can try is the raw food diet, it’s the healthiest one i’ve seen so far, and it has a greater chance of you not gaining the weight back, hope i helped ( :

I tried that for 2 months. I lost a LOT of weight but my health also suffered. You should believe those who are saying that’s it’s not good. I always have palpitations, i feel dehydrated even if i”m drinking lots of water. There’s shortness of breath even if i’m not doing anything. Everybody that I know noticed the difference, they say i look sick. A friend of mine was even rushed to the hospital yesterday because she’s also following the same routine. I advice you not to do it. For sure, you’ll only regret it in the end.

    hmm..
well an all liquid diet will do nothing.its about as if you are not intaking anything at all, since water has no calories.
if you just stop eating, you may lose weight. but in essense you’d be starving yourself which i’m sure you know isnt healthy, just like that adkins diet.

They say that the worst diet out there is the liquid diet and that you will out the weight back on immediatley. So I would not do it.

Yes you will lose it, you wont be abke to keep it off and your gonna look like crap as your so hirribly undernourished. Just eat like a normal person ffs.

You will lose weight, but will just gain it back when you start to eat “normal” again.
